Abstract

This study aims to improve vocabulary mastery skills of children with hearing impairment through the VAKT method. Deaf children need guidance in improving vocabulary mastery skills so that they can understand the language of other people who do not use sign language either spoken or written. The subject of this study was an eleven year old boy who was in class IV SLB YPPLB Padang. The type of research used is experimental research with a single design or Single Subject Research. The design used was multiple baseline cross variables with three types of vocabulary that became the target of the intervention, namely object vocabulary, work vocabulary and trait vocabulary.. The data collection technique used a test with data collection tools in the form of a vocabulary mastery test instrument with three types of vocabulary. Meanwhile, the data analysis technique uses visual analysis method which includes analysis in conditions and analysis between conditions. The results of the data analysis showed that when the VAKT method intervention was given to the vocabulary mastery ability of children with hearing impairment, it increased in all three types of vocabulary, with a comparison of the mean level from 0 to 9.5 for object vocabulary, 0 to 9.5 in working vocabulary and 0 to 8 in the nature vocabulary. In addition, there is an increasing trend in the conditions for giving intervention. It can be concluded that the VAKT method can improve vocabulary mastery skills for deaf children.
