CHARACTERISTICS OF LIQUID WASTE IN THE PROCESSING OF ACTIVE MUD SYSTEMS IN THE PALM PLANTATION FACTORY PTPN II SAWIT SEBRANG LANGKAT

Abstract

The characteristics of wastewater need to be known because this will determine the right treatment method, so it does not pollute the environment. Poor wastewater treatment cannot reduce pollutant parameters, especially chemical parameters, namely BOD, COD, TSS, PH, and N-Total levels found in palm oil liquid waste. The formulation of the problem in this study is whether the levels of BOD, COD, TSS, PH and N-total liquid waste after treatment at the PTPN2 Palm Oil Mill across the threshold value according to Kep -51 / MEN LH / 1995. The research objectives are. To find out the levels and principles of BOD, COD, PH, TSS and N-Total calculations in palm oil liquid waste, this research is a descriptive design with observational research type. Population is all liquid waste in the factory. The samples in this study were 2 liters in sedimentation ponds and anaerobic ponds. The sampling technique uses the momentary method (grab sampling). The analysis uses BOD, COD, TSS, PH and N-Total content tests in the palm oil liquid waste test. The results of the study prove that the palm oil mill effluent at PTPN2 Sawit Seberang which already has a standard quality standard of liquid waste for the palm oil industry activities in accordance with Kep-51 / MEN LH / 1995 standardization, ie the BOD value is less than 100 mg / l , for the COD value meets the quality standard because it is less than 350 mg / l, the TSS value meets the quality standard also because it is less than 250 mg / l, so does the N-Total value meets the quality standard because it is less than 50 mg / l l. Suggestions for the industry are expected to be able to process liquid waste properly so that the results of the processing of liquid waste that is utilized as a Land Application does not have a negative impact on the environment or on existing oil palm plantations in the plantation.
