Types of Banana (Musaceae) in Curup Tengah District, Rejang Lebong Regency
Abstract
Indonesia is the center of banana diversity (Musaceae) and has many types and cultivars of bananas that are scattered throughout Indonesia. The people in Rejang Lebong Regency still plant bananas, both in the wild planting, in the family cultivation sector and in the small and medium plantation sector. This area is one of the banana commodity centers for Bengkulu Province. It is suspected that there are still many species and intraspecific forms of wild and cultivated bananas that have not been identified and well documented in Rejang Lebong Regency, especially in Curup Tengah District. This research was conducted from January to April 2020. The method used in this study was the exploration method. Data were collected by collecting data on the collection based on the banana descriptor manual according to the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute (IPGRI) standards. Based on the results of the observed characters, the description is followed by making the banana identification key. The results of the research on banana species in Curup Tengah District, Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, found as many as 14 types of bananas consisting of 2 genera (13 Musa and 1 Ensete) with a total of 73 individuals.
