Abstract

This community service program entitled “Empowering Red Chili Farmers through the Innovation of Trichoderma harzianum: A Sustainable Solution to Reduce Chemical Pesticide Dependency in Bukit Panjang Village, Aceh Tamiang Regency” was initiated to address the high incidence of fusarium wilt (Fusarium oxysporum) and root rot diseases that decrease red chili productivity by up to 50%, leading farmers to rely heavily on chemical pesticides. Such dependence has caused environmental degradation, increased production costs, and reduced farmers’ income. The program aimed to introduce and implement the use of Trichoderma harzianum as a biological control agent in an environmentally friendly and sustainable farming system, complemented by training in farm management and digital marketing for the Suka Jaya Farmers Group. The activities consisted of socialization, theoretical training, field demonstrations, regular mentoring, and participatory evaluation. The results revealed a 70–80% reduction in disease incidence, a 50–60% decrease in chemical pesticide use, a 30–40% increase in yield, and a 20% improvement in farmers’ income. This program successfully enhanced the technical and managerial capacities of farmers, fostered environmental awareness, and promoted self-reliance toward a sustainable red chili farming system that contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2, 8, and 12.
