Abstract

Social interaction is a crucial aspect of early childhood development. However, many 6-year-old children still exhibit difficulties in social interaction. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of role-playing methods in improving children's social interaction skills. The research employed a pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 6-year-old children at TK Teladan Pertiwi Tunas Harapan in Bukittinggi City. The intervention was carried out through three role-playing sessions: playing doctor, playing store, and playing police and thief. Data collection techniques included observation and interviews. Data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed an increase in children's social interaction scores from a pre-test score of 42,82% to a posttest score of 65.50%. All aspects of social interaction showed significant improvement, particularly in external systems and the social interaction triangle. In conclusion, the role-playing method is effective in enhancing social interaction skills in 6-year-old children. Role-playing provides meaningful and enjoyable social experiences and can serve as an applicable learning strategy in early childhood education.
