Abstract

This study is a discussion of the problems the author found in SLBN 1 Muaro Sijunjung. This study discusses how skills learning activities at SLBN 1 Muaro Sijunjung are still lacking in the latest innovations so that children tend to experience boredom in carrying out skills learning just like that. Vocational skills are taught only in the form of ordinary skills, such as sewing, embroidery, flower arrangement, and culinary. The culinary lessons taught are only in the form of cooking ordinary foods, such as frying, curling and sauteing. Seeing from these problems, the author tries to teach to make different types of vocational skills and with different teaching methods so that it will produce a selling point that will help deaf students in their future life, namely by presenting vocational skills to make smoked fish. This study uses an experimental research method. This study uses a mastery learning strategy as a learning method. This study aims to determine whether the mastery learning strategy is effective in improving vocational skills in making smoked fish for deaf children in grade X at SLBN 1 Muaro Sijunjung, which consists of 2 girls and 3 boys. The results of this study were an increase in the child's ability to make smoked fish after being given treatment using a mastery learning strategy. It was proven by the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test the resulting value was 2.032 with probability and Asymp sign. (2-tailed) = 0.042 so that the probability obtained is 0.042 <0.05, thus Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted so that the mastery learning strategy is effective to improve vocational skills in making smoked fish for deaf children in SLBN 1 Muaro Sijunjung.
