This research was motivated by the skill of planting onion leaves hydroponically with a floating raft system for mild mentally retarded children in grade VIII SMPLB / C at SLB Salsabilla Indah Padang. This type of research is a classroom action carried out in the form of collaboration with class teachers. The subject of this research is one child with mild mental retardation in grade VIII at SLB Salsabilla Indah Padang. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four face-to-face meetings and each meeting an evaluation was carried out. The research cycle consisted of planning, implementing actions. Observation and reflection. Data is obtained through observation, verbal and action tests, and documentation. The research results were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results of the research before being given the action using the training method showed that the students' initial abilities in planting chilies were: AF 54.50%. Meanwhile, after the action given through the student ability training method at the end of the first cycle it became AF 74.27%. In the second cycle it increased to AF 86.36%. From the research data obtained, it can be concluded that the training method can improve the skills of planting cayenne pepper in mild mentally retarded children grade VIII SLB Salsabilla Indah Padang.
