Abstract

This research is based on the background of class XII students with the classification of mild mentally retarded children at SLB Negeri 1 Solok. During the learning process, the teacher uses a demonstration method to tie dyeing clothes, where students look bored by just listening and paying attention to the teacher who explains and demonstrates the dyeing skill. In the implementation of dyeing skills on clothes, students who do not understand the steps of the work, the teacher helps until the work is complete, so that students do not understand the steps of making dyeing skills. So, to improve the skills of tying clothes on clothes for mild mentally retarded children at SLB Negeri 1 Solok, direct learning methods are used in the learning process. The type of research used in this research is classroom action with the aim of improving the learning process with more diverse and innovative learning methods so as to improve student learning outcomes to the maximum. The research was carried out in collaboration with class XII teachers at SLB Negeri 1 Solok. The research was carried out in 2 cycles with each cycle having 4 meetings so that the number of implementations was 8 meetings. The research subjects were the class teacher as the giver of action and the class XII students with a total of 4 students with the initials RN, IN, MY and CI who had difficulties in the learning process of dyeing clothes. The results of the study of tie-dying skills on clothes for mild mentally retarded children through direct learning methods increased. In the initial conditions, the score was RN 36%, IN 32%, MY 32% and CI 24%. In the first cycle, students got a score of RN 68%, IN 64%, MY 64%, CI 60%. In cycle II, students get an increasing score, namely RN 96%, IN 92%, MY 92%, CI 88%.
