Abstract

ABSTRACT

Research on the effect of sintering temperature variations on the microstructure characteristics of hydroxyapatite from whitefish bones has been successfully carried out. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) based on whitefish bones (chanos-chanos forsk) can be applied as a bonegraft material. In this study, hydroxyapatite material was synthesized by preheating using an oven at a temperature of 100oC to obtain dry samples and then a sintering process was carried out with temperature variations by 800, 900 and 1000 oC. After the sintering process is complete, the sample is milled at a rotating speed of 350 rpm with a milling time of 15 hours. The synthesized hydroxyapatite material is then characterized by microstructure using XRD, which can then be applied as bonegraft material. Based on the results of XRD testing, the hydroxyapatite phase was successfully formed. Based on the characterization results, it shows that the sintering temperature affects the crystal size value, with values between 28.23 – 57.82 nm
