Emergency Nutrition Intervention through the Distribution of Nutritious Food for Flood-Affected Communities in Rantau Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang
Abstract
Flooding that occurred in Rantau Subdistrict, Aceh Tamiang Regency, had a significant impact on the social, health, and food security conditions of the affected communities. In the post-flood period, limited access to nutritious food increased the risk of health problems and deterioration of nutritional status among vulnerable groups, particularly children, pregnant women, and the elderly. This community service activity aimed to provide emergency nutrition intervention through the distribution of nutritious food to flood-affected communities as an effort to fulfill basic nutritional needs and prevent post-disaster health problems. The implementation methods included identification of locations and target groups, assessment of emergency nutritional needs, distribution of nutritious food packages appropriate for emergency conditions, and brief nutrition education on the importance of balanced dietary intake during the recovery period. The results indicated that emergency nutrition interventions improved community access to nutritious food and provided initial support for the health recovery of affected populations. This program is expected to serve as a simple and practical model for nutrition intervention in flood disaster response in disaster-prone areas.
