Abstract

This research is motivated by the low speaking skills of students due to teacher-centered learning, lack of variation in methods, and teaching modules that are not yet supportive. Other influencing factors are low motivation, self-confidence, and vocabulary mastery. The purpose of this study was to describe the improvement of speaking skills through the role-playing method in grade IV students of SDN 16 Kampung Nan VI, Pasaman Regency. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a qualitative and quantitative approach, which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were obtained through tests and non-tests. The results showed an increase in teaching modules from 92.18% to 93.75%, teacher activity from 95% to 97.5%, and students' speaking skills from an average of 80.39 to 90.14. It was concluded that the role-playing method is effective in improving students' speaking skills in learning Indonesian.
