Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of village economic potential through the rice farming sector in Sidoharjo-I Pasar Miring Village, Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method using a SWOT analysis approach, which includes Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats factors, while also considering the role of stakeholders, namely the village government and the local community. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that the rice farming sector has significant potential to improve the village economy, supported by the availability of agricultural land, farmers' experience, and strong community solidarity. However, several challenges remain, including limited capital, low adoption of technology, and suboptimal market access. Development opportunities are supported by government programs and high market demand, while threats arise from climate change, land-use conversion, and price fluctuations. Therefore, appropriate development strategies are required through the optimization of existing potential, improvement of human resource capacity, and strengthening synergy between the village government and the community in order to achieve sustainable economic welfare.
