Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of local communities in utilizing fruit waste as raw materials for the production of Local Microorganisms (MOL) to support sustainable aquaculture pond management in the Gampong Berdikari community empowerment program in Padang Sakti Village. Organic waste materials, including banana peels, papaya peels, pineapple waste, and coconut water, were utilized as nutrient sources in the MOL fermentation process. The implementation methods included socialization activities, training sessions, hands-on practice in MOL production, assistance in its application to aquaculture ponds, and evaluation of participants’ understanding and skills. The results indicated that participants were able to understand the process of MOL production and application and were capable of implementing it independently. The utilization of MOL has the potential to improve pond environmental quality by enhancing microbial activity involved in organic matter decomposition and water quality management. Furthermore, the use of fruit waste as a raw material for MOL adds value to organic waste that was previously underutilized. The program also increased community awareness of the importance of waste management based on local resources to support cost efficiency and the sustainability of aquaculture farming practices.
