Authorship Criteria
- Authorship Criteria
Authorship in KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia is based on substantial intellectual contributions to the research and manuscript preparation. This policy applies to all manuscripts covering chemistry education, chemistry research, and computational chemistry within the journal’s scope.
Every individual listed as an author must have made a meaningful contribution to the scholarly work and be willing to take responsibility for their respective contributions. An individual may be listed as an author only if all of the following criteria are met:
- Substantial contributions to the research, including the formulation of ideas, development of concepts or research designs, data collection, methodological development, experimental work, computational modeling, and data analysis or interpretation relevant to the research field.
- Participation in drafting or revising the manuscript, including involvement in writing the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
- Approval of the final manuscript, including reading and approving the final version before submission for publication.
- Accountability for the scholarly work, including taking responsibility for their contributions and helping ensure that any questions concerning the accuracy, validity, integrity, and reliability of the research are appropriately addressed.
All of these criteria must be fulfilled for an individual to be listed as an author of a manuscript submitted to KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia.
- Contributions That Do Not Qualify for Authorship
Contributions that do not independently qualify an individual for authorship include providing funding, general supervision, administrative support, laboratory facilities or equipment, routine technical assistance, and data collection without substantial intellectual involvement.
In chemistry education, chemistry research, and computational chemistry, routine technical assistance in conducting experiments, operating instruments, collecting educational data, or performing routine data processing does not automatically justify authorship.
Individuals who contribute to the research but do not meet all authorship criteria may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgements section, subject to the consent of the individuals concerned.
- Author Contributions and Responsibilities
All authors must transparently disclose their respective contributions to the research and manuscript preparation. KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia encourages the use of the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), where applicable, to describe each author's role.
These roles may include conceptualization, methodology, investigation, data curation, formal analysis, validation, visualization, software development, writing the original draft, reviewing and editing the manuscript, supervision, project administration, and funding acquisition.
The use of CRediT does not replace the requirement to satisfy all authorship criteria established by the journal.
The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication with the editor, ensuring that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript, confirming the authorship list and order, and communicating editorial decisions and revision requests to all co-authors.
All authors are responsible for maintaining research integrity and ensuring that the manuscript complies with applicable publication ethics requirements, including the honest reporting of research methods, data, results, analyses, and interpretations.
- First Author and Corresponding Author
The first author is generally the individual who has made the most substantial contribution to conducting the research and preparing the manuscript. The corresponding author is the primary contact responsible for communicating with the journal throughout submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication correspondence.
In chemistry education research, experimental chemistry research, and computational chemistry, the designation of the first author should reflect intellectual contributions and actual involvement in the research and manuscript preparation.
The first author and corresponding author may be the same person or different individuals. The roles and order of authors must be discussed and agreed upon by all authors before the manuscript is submitted to the journal.
- Changes in Authorship
Requests to add or remove an author or change the order of authors after manuscript submission must be accompanied by a clear written justification and the consent of all affected authors, including any individuals to be added or removed.
The corresponding author must submit the request to the editor for consideration in accordance with the journal's policies and the principles of publication ethics.
Changes to the authorship list after manuscript acceptance or publication will be considered only under exceptional circumstances, based on justifiable reasons and in accordance with the applicable publication ethics procedures.
The journal reserves the right to request clarification or supporting documentation before approving any authorship changes.
- Honorary, Gift, and Ghost Authorship
KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia does not permit honorary authorship (guest authorship), gift authorship, or ghost authorship.
- Guest authorship refers to listing an individual as an author without an adequate contribution to the research and manuscript preparation.
- Gift authorship refers to granting authorship as a form of recognition, reward, or courtesy based on an individual's seniority or position, without meeting the authorship criteria.
- Ghost authorship refers to failing to acknowledge an individual as an author despite their having made substantial contributions and met the authorship criteria.
All individuals listed as authors must meet the journal's authorship criteria. Conversely, individuals who meet these criteria must be fairly considered for recognition as authors.
- Authorship Disputes
Disputes concerning authorship status, author order, or the allocation of contributions should first be addressed through discussion among the authors. Where necessary, the authors' affiliated institutions may be involved in resolving the dispute.
The editor of KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia may suspend the review or publication process if an authorship dispute remains unresolved. The journal may request evidence, clarification, or statements from the parties concerned and the relevant institutions before making an editorial decision.
The journal does not replace the authority of institutions in conducting formal investigations into suspected research misconduct. Editorial decisions will take into account the available information and applicable publication ethics policies.
- Compliance with Publication Ethics
By submitting a manuscript to KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia, the corresponding author confirms that all authors have made contributions that satisfy the authorship criteria, approved the final manuscript, agreed on the authorship list and order, and accepted responsibility for the integrity of the submitted scholarly work.
All authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest, funding sources, and any other information required under the journal's publication ethics policies.
Submitted manuscripts must report research findings honestly, accurately, and transparently, whether they concern chemistry education; chemistry research, including organic chemistry, biochemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental chemistry, and materials chemistry; or computational chemistry.
KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia reserves the right to request additional information or clarification regarding authorship if there are indications of non-compliance with the established criteria. Suspected violations will be handled in accordance with the journal's policies and relevant principles of publication ethics.
