Retraction and Correction Policy
Purpose
KATALIS: Jurnal Penelitian Kimia dan Pendidikan Kimia is committed to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, academic ethics, and publication quality. The journal recognizes the importance of correcting errors and retracting published articles when necessary to preserve the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of the scientific record. This policy establishes the procedures and guidelines for issuing corrections and retractions for articles published in KATALIS, covering the fields of chemical education, chemistry research, and computational chemistry.
Corrections
Minor Errors
If minor errors are identified in a published article that do not significantly affect the validity, interpretation, or conclusions of the research, the authors are encouraged to notify the editorial office. Such errors may include typographical mistakes, formatting issues, or inaccuracies in references. The editorial board will evaluate the proposed corrections and, if approved, publish a correction notice linked to the original article.
Editorial Errors
If errors or omissions resulting from the editorial or publication process are identified, the journal will take appropriate action to correct them promptly. A correction notice will be published when necessary, and the corrected version of the article will be made available online while maintaining transparency regarding the changes made.
Retractions
Reasons for Retraction
An article published in KATALIS may be retracted if there is clear evidence of:
- Scientific misconduct, including data fabrication, data falsification, or manipulation of research results.
- Plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other serious violations of publication ethics.
- Authorship irregularities or unresolved ethical concerns that compromise the integrity of the publication.
- Serious errors in research methods, data analysis, experimental results, chemical interpretations, computational models, or educational research findings that substantially undermine the validity or reliability of the article.
- Violations of research ethics or other circumstances that render the published findings unreliable.
Retraction Process
The decision to retract an article will be made by the editorial board following a careful assessment of the available evidence and, when necessary, consultation with independent experts.
The authors of the article will be notified of the concerns and given an opportunity to provide explanations or responses before a final decision is made, where appropriate.
If a retraction is approved, a formal retraction notice will be published, clearly stating the reasons for the retraction and providing a link to the original article. The original article will remain accessible where appropriate and will be clearly marked as “RETRACTED” to maintain the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record.
When evidence of serious research misconduct is identified, the journal may notify the relevant institutions or authorities, as appropriate.
Appeals
Authors who disagree with a correction or retraction decision may submit a written appeal to the editorial board, accompanied by relevant evidence and explanations. Appeals will be reviewed impartially, and independent experts may be consulted when necessary. The final decision will be made by the editorial board based on the evidence and applicable publication ethics standards.
Responsibilities of Authors and Reviewers
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their submitted and published manuscripts. They are encouraged to report significant errors identified after publication and to cooperate with the editorial board during investigations concerning the integrity of their work.
Reviewers are encouraged to report concerns regarding the validity, originality, or ethical compliance of published research. All parties involved in the review and investigation process must maintain appropriate confidentiality and act objectively and professionally.
Transparency
KATALIS is committed to transparency and accountability throughout the publication process. All corrections and retractions will be documented clearly, and relevant notices will explain the reasons for the actions taken. These measures aim to maintain the reliability of scientific information and uphold public trust in research published in the fields of chemical education, chemistry research, and computational chemistry.
Policy Review
This Retraction and Correction Policy will be reviewed periodically by the editorial board to ensure its continued relevance and consistency with recognized publication ethics standards and best practices in scholarly publishing.
