INSTRUCTIONS FOR WRITING CITATIONS AND REFERENCES

All references cited (quoted) in the manuscript must follow the Harvard Referencing Style (Name-Year) bibliography writing system, which is the format used by the Scientific Ocean Aquatics Journal (JISA). The writing format follows the provisions.

In the Text

  • One author: (year name)
  • Two uthors: use '&' between author last names
  • Or more authors: use the first author's last name followed by 'et al'. (The format is not italicized or separated by commas.).
  • If the reference cites an article with the same first author published in the same year, then the name of the first author is included, followed by the letter (a, b, c, etc.) after the year.
  • Multiple citations in parentheses are separated by a semicolon (;), which are ordered by date or time of publication from oldest to newest. If the year of publication is the same, sort by the first letter of the first author's name.

Example:
(Smith & Miller, 1965), (Ahmed, 1968), (Miller et al. 2000a)
